Using a Directional Distance Function to Measure the Environmental Efficiency of International Liner Shipping Companies and Assess Regulatory Impact

چکیده
Maritime transport relies on a large amounts of fossil fuels. It provides cargo-carrying services but simultaneously emits enormous by-products such as CO2, which cause climate change. The IMO has adopted mandatory measures to reduce the shipping industry’s greenhouse gas emissions by at least 70% 2050, relative 2008. In this paper, we select 11 liner companies decision-making units (DMUs) that account for more than 80% world’s capacity. Utilizing directional distance function, estimate their environmental efficiency in 2019, 2020, and 2021. vector serves expand desired outputs contract undesirable outputs. larger distance, farther evaluated unit is from production frontier, less environmentally efficient it assessed. This study compares impact regulations based two methods dealing with Since results indicate low overall shipping, firms should strengthen decarbonization efforts achieve goals. Moreover, also demonstrate significantly they need by-product comply regulations.

Environmental Regulation and Firm Efficiency: Studying the Porter Hypothesis using a Directional Output Distance Function
The purpose of this paper is to suggest a procedure to empirically test the Porter hypothesis. This hypothesis argues that environmental regulation not only increases environmental quality, but also brings the polluting producers information that makes them more resource efficient, as well as able to develop new technologies. Specifically, the hypothesis tested is whether there is a positive si...
متن کاملassessment of the efficiency of s.p.g.c refineries using network dea
data envelopment analysis (dea) is a powerful tool for measuring relative efficiency of organizational units referred to as decision making units (dmus). in most cases dmus have network structures with internal linking activities. traditional dea models, however, consider dmus as black boxes with no regard to their linking activities and therefore do not provide decision makers with the reasons...
A Modified Directional Distance Formulation of DEA with Malmquist Index to Assess Bankruptcy
Bankruptcy in the same amount of time and history is very rampant and therefore the vision of the future can be prevented. Using data envelopment analysis (DEA) and malmquist index can precise evaluating of the performances of many different kinds of decision making units (DMU) such as hospitals, universities, business firms, etc. In this paper, we will modify directional distance formulation o...
